99.7% Titanium Disc Target Gr1 Gr2 Gr5 Gr7 Gr12
A titanium disc is only as useful as the grade behind it. This 99.7 percent pure disc and sputtering target is produced by cold rolled stamping and can be supplied in five grades, so the same blank can be matched to a coating chamber, an electrolysis cell or a reactor head. Gr1 and Gr2 cover most corrosion duty, Gr5 brings strength, Gr7 adds palladium for reducing acids and Gr12 adds nickel and molybdenum for crevice corrosion in hot chlorides.
Matching the Grade to the Medium
Gr1 is the softest and most formable, chosen where the disc has to be bent or deep drawn and where maximum corrosion resistance matters more than strength. Gr2 is the general purpose grade for chemical equipment and targets. Gr5, the Ti-6Al-4V alloy, is picked when the part carries load. Gr7 contains 0.12 to 0.25 percent palladium, which keeps the passive film intact in reducing and mildly oxidizing acids, and Gr12 with 0.2 to 0.4 percent molybdenum and 0.6 to 0.9 percent nickel resists crevice attack in hot brine.

Purity Control
Purity is held at 99.7 percent by controlling the interstitial elements rather than by a final pickling step: nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, iron and oxygen are each kept inside the limits in the table, because oxygen and iron are what degrade both corrosion resistance and sputtering behaviour. Each lot is checked before stamping, and the chemistry and tensile values above are the acceptance basis quoted on the certificate.
Sizes, Finish and Use
Discs are cold rolled to thickness, stamped to diameter and deburred, and can be supplied annealed or in the rolled temper with a pickled or bright finish. Typical uses are PVD sputtering targets for decorative and functional coatings, cathode plates for electroplating and electrolysis, and corrosion resistant blanks for vacuum salt making, fine chemical reactors, chlor-alkali plants, electroplating lines and seawater desalination equipment.
